Baneful Magick

Baneful Magick and Black Magick are often interwoven and misunderstood. They are not mutually exclusive, and sometimes overlap. Being a Witch comes with many options to define our personal ethics and routes to exercise our power. In this video, we explored exactly what Baneful Magick is and why or why not one may choose to work with it.

And here is a checklist of what we discuss in this video:

  • Most Baneful Magick is Black Magick but not all Black Magick is Baneful

  • Black Magick is performed with the intent to release or remove with harm to none

  • Baneful Magick is generally performed with the intent to harm someone else, in the form of curses and hexes

  • Some witches may suggest that in order to live fully in your power, you have to be willing to do baneful magick, but you’re the only one who can determine what it means to fully embody your power

  • We personally do not condone Baneful Magick because...

    • What we focus on expands

    • The Law of Three, which states “The energy I put out there will return triple fold to me”

    • With that understanding, why would we want to put harm out there?!

  • There are many alternative options with our magick besides resorting to hexes and curses, such as…

    • Protection spells– we can mitigate receiving harm rather than having to hex it in return by practicing regular protection magick on our aura, home, car, etc.

    • Karma spells– in this type of working, we’re not casting harm but we are encouraging the person to face their karma when we recognize there’s some f*ckery afoot

    • Reflection spells– deflecting psychic attack back to the sender (may block us from absorbing love, but can be highly useful for guarding against any ill will being casted in your direction consciously or unconsciously)

    • Binding spells– ala The Craft, "I bind you Nancy from doing harm. Harm against other people and harm against yourself.” (We discussed the ethics of this in our final video on this series)

Walking this path is largely about realizing the true meaning of our power. Magick comes with both results and consequences, which calls for emotional maturity in exercising and directing our consciousness. It’s an aspect of our creative freedom to choose how we meet difficult people, experiences and issues at large, so why waste energy on low vibrational relating when you could choose to align your energy and intention towards creative, peaceful and harmonious connection? Defining our moral compass within magickal workings is a key ingredient to honoring our sovereign power!
